Ida Bunting Semi Final report and details of the Final

Ida Bunting Semi Finals Monday 8th August 2022 Ballards Gore Golf Club

Match 1 teed off at 1pm. Andrea Clark playing handicap 20 from Belfairs v Ruth Collins playing handicap 22 from Three Rivers
Ruth won the first 2 holes but Andrea quickly fought back squaring the match on the 4th. Ruth continued to play well paring the next 4 holes, judging the distance & putting well despite the hard conditions and was 3 up at the 10th. Andrea fought back to be 1 down on the 14th, the 15th was halved but Ruth pared the 16th to be 2 up and closed out the match on the 17th winning 2 and 1.

Match 2 teed off at 1.08pm. Hi Barbara Kim Highfield, playing handicap 22 from The Warren v Carole Lewis playing handicap 20 from Five Lakes
This game was evenly matched with both girls hitting great shots, although stopping the ball on the greens proved difficult. Kim initially pulled ahead going 2 up after 5 holes, however, Carole pulled the match back to all square by the 7th hole. Both players played some lovely golf, but the short game proved difficult to judge. By hole 13, a shot hole for Kim, with both on the green for 3, Kim holed her putt to go 3 up. The next 3 holes were then halved with Kim coming out the winner on hole 16, 3 and 2.

Both matches were played in a good spirit in difficult conditions. Our thanks go to the caddies and Sandra Goff for referring. My thanks also to Ballards Gore Golf Club for hosting the matches and to the caterers for the sandwiches & drinks prior to the match.

3rd Summer Meeting Colne Valley August 2022 – Results

48 ladies from 24 different clubs across the County, from as far away as Clacton, Orsett and West Essex, played in the 18 hole 4BBB stableford competition. It was a lovely day for golf, generally not too hot and with a breeze at times. The greens were in excellent condition but as is common place at the moment much of the fairways were parched due to the prolonged and extreme heat and lack of rainfall. Consequently many found the conditions tough but some pairings were able to record excellent scores.

Sue Drysdale, Lady Captain of Colne Valley welcomed all the ladies to Colne Valley in the morning, played in the competition as we were short of a player on the day and helped Dot Greaves President of the Society present the prizes at the end of the day. Thanks to Colne Valley for hosting our event, and to all the staff on the day who were very welcoming and looked after us very well. The evening meal was delicious.

3rd Christine Curtis (The Essex) & Denise Hawkins (formerly Benton Hall but now plays at Feldon Valley) with 46 points

2nd Denise Rowland (West Essex) & Christine Berry (Belfairs) with 50 points

1st and winners of the Friendship Salver Maggie Stevenson (formerly North Weald) & Janna Pratt Theydon Bois with 51 points.

2nd Summer Meeting Three Rivers July 2022 – Results

35 ladies played in the 18 hole drawn team stableford competition with 2 out of 4 scores to count on the Kings Course. In order to be inclusive we had also offered a 9 hole competition on the Jubilee Course for ladies who preferred a shorter competition. Sadly this was very poorly subscribed and as we only had 2 competitors a couple of days before the event they both kindly agreed to join the 18 hole competition.

Our grateful thanks are extended to Three Rivers Golf & Country Club for hosting our event and to Sally Roberts for all her help with the arrangements and all the staff on the day. The Cold buffet was both plentiful & delicious. Thanks also to Ruth Collins for welcoming us all to the club in the morning and to Lady Captain Jane Hatfield for joining us later in the day and helping to present the prizes.

It was warm but a generally overcast day.  With the recent  extreme temperatures and essentially no rain for weeks the ball was certainly running and running and running …. sometimes into the ditches/ponds, out of bounds or the strategically placed bunkers. Nevertheless, the ladies enjoyed the team format, working together with other past and present Lady Captains (some they may not have met before) to achieve the best score possible for the team on each hole. Scores at the end of the day were varied. The results are:

3rd Sue Boon (Thornton Park), Maud Instone (Gosfield Lake), Diane Barkwith (The Rayleigh Club) & Janice Hamilton (The Warren) with 92 points ocb

2nd Maggie Stevenson (formerly North Weald), Anne Ross (Benton Hall), Barbara Ingram (West Essex) & Susan Wilson (Forrester Park) also with 92 points ocb. pictured below with Dot Greaves (Lady President) & Jane Hatfield (Lady Captain Three Rivers).

1st place and winners of the Joyce Layland Cup with a very impressive score of 101 points:

Carol Bell (Benton Hall), Tina Ramsey (Theydon Bois), Ros Clements (Stoke by Nayland) & Jenny Luke (Mardyke Valley)

Tina Ramsey (current Lady Captain Theydon Bois), who was attending her first Society of Lady Captains Meeting, thanked everyone involved in running the day on behalf of her team. She also said she had really enjoyed her day and was looking forward to coming again.

1st Summer Meeting Results – Garon Park June 2022

Due to a lot of cancellations, many COVID related, just 32 ladies played in the 1st Summer Meeting at Garon Park. Nevertheless it was a great day enjoyed by all the ladies. The course was in great condition especially the greens though some found them challenging. The wild flower area near the clubhouse was a colourful natural spectacle. A bit of a cloudy start to the day but the sun did eventually break through.

Past Lady Captain Carol Berry hosted the day on behalf of current Lady Captain Jan Cremer who had a Silver Match. Carol welcomed all the ladies to Garon Park and was assisted by 2 past captains, Jan in the morning and Stephanie helping with the results in the evening. Lady Captain Jan Cremer managed to come along after her match to say hello to all the ladies.

Grateful thanks to Garon Park for hosting the day and to all those at the club involved in event both in the run up and on the day.
