Theydon Bois 2nd Summer Meeting July 2021 – Results

Our 2nd Summer Meeting took place at Theydon Bois Golf Club in mid July. With a forecast of heavy rain and possible lightening sadly a number of ladies decided to cancel. This always causes a lot of extra work especially on this occasion as it was a drawn team game. However Lady Captain Jill James and past LC’s Jo Shepherd and Jennifer Stokes all stepped up to the plate and joined in the competition to make up the teams. The drawn teams played a stableford competition with 2 out of 4 scores to count. The course looked lovely but with little roll on the ball after recent rain it was generally playing long. Congratulations to the winners Mary-Anne Decruz (Benton Hall), Judith Robertson (Colchester), Ros Clements Stoke by Nayland and Susan Gill (Maylands). We will try to present the Trophy later in the year. The full list of prize winners can be downloaded here.

As is often the case the weather forecast didn’t turn out to be a reality and whilst is started out cloudy, the skies soon cleared away and temperature rose to create some lovely playing conditions. Just to show how great the conditions were for most of the day take a look at Linda Mead current Lady Captain of Mardyke Valley enjoying her first meeting with us in glorious sunshine. Duing these Covid times the Committee are having to put in place revised processes & procedures to ensure everyone is safe. These have worked really well and a number of our members have praised the excellent organisation of our days which does make our efforts worthwhile. Our grateful thanks to Theydon Bois Golf Club for hosting this event and to all the staff on the day. The meal of braised lamb shanks and tarte tatin was a real delight and praised by many of the ladies. Thanks again to Lady Captain Jill and Past Captains Jo and Jennifer for their help on the day.

Our next meeting is on 12 August at Clacton, if any past or present Lady Captains would like to join us please contact Jane Collier to book your place (email janecollier03@btinternet.com).

Ballards Gore 1st Summer Meeting June 2021 – Results

The first of our meetings this year took place at Ballards Gore Golf Club on Friday. With Covid restrictions still in place some changes to our usual practices were required to conform with Covid restrictions and ensure the safety and well being of our members.  The field was split in half with 2 arrival times to keep numbers in the clubhouse to a sensible level and it was evident from the smiles on faces and the chatter, that both past and present Lady Captains were pleased to be able to play in our events and have the opportunity to catch up again with old friends and acquaintances.

The weather forecast was not good with showers predicted for most of the afternoon but with the exception of a few of the groups at the back all got round in the dry. The course was in excellent condition and it was great to see the wildlife enjoying it too (picture of the ducklings below).

Congratulations to the winners Mary-Anne Decruz (Benton Hall) and Hilary Willett (Boyce Hill) with a great score of 44 points. We will try to present the trophy later in the year. The full list of prize winners can be downloaded below. Prizes could not be awarded on the day but vouchers will be sent out by post in the next few days. Our thanks go to Ballards Gore Golf Club for hosting the event and to all the staff on the day who attended to our needs. The evening meal was delightful. Thanks to Lady Captain Sonya and Vice Captain Lilian (Lin) for standing in and making up numbers on the day. Finally thanks to Vicky Verrall for all her help in ensuring the event went ahead safely and everything ran smoothly.

We look forward to seeing more of our members on 12 July at Theydon Bois for our 2nd Summer Meeting. This is likely to be run in a similar way to the Ballards Gore Meeting as Covid restrictions will still be in place. A fun day with a drawn team competition. So if you are not booked in already please contact Jane Collier preferably via email janecollier03@btinternet.com to reserve your place as we would be delighted to see a few more of our members. Details of this event will be posted on the website soon so watch this space and all players will be emailed (please remember to confirm receipt of emails).
