3rd Summer Meeting Stoke by Nayland August 2017 – Results

56 past and present Lady Captains from 24 clubs travelled to Stoke by Nayland in mid August for the Society of Lady Captains  3rd Summer Meeting.  After the customary bacon rolls the ladies teed off on the Gainsborough course for their 4BBB competition off full handicap with drawn partners.  The undulating terrain and lakes presented a real challenge for the ladies, but, as is often the case, many of the scores were high with 7 pairs scoring 40 points and above.

Thanks to Stoke by Nayland for allowing us to use their lovely venue and to Lady Captain Anne Hemmings who was a wonderful host and even had to play at the last minute due to odd numbers.   Thanks also to Lesley Garnet for all her help with the event and to her husband for helping with all the results. The meeting was a very friendly affair and the day finished with a lovely meal which included delicious fresh local fruit grown by the Peake family business.  The prizes were presented by JanCollier (Lady President of the Society) & Anne Hemmings (Lady Captain of Stoke by Nayland).

In 5th place ocb with 42 points were Helen Williams (The Burstead) & Margaret Byford (Gosfield Lake), in 4th place with 42 points ocb were Pat Flynn (The Rayleigh Club) & Lesley Sherer (Benton Hall) and in 3rd place also on 42 points were Sue Bartrum (Romford) & Dot Greaves (Forrester Park).  2nd place with 43 points went to Catherine Grief (Crondon Park) & Janice Hamilton (The Warren).  In first place and with a fantastic score of 47 points winning the Friendship Salver were Tricia Ainsbury (The Burstead) and Viggi Thompson (Bunsay Downs).

Our final meeting this year is at Chelmsford Golf Club.  If you are booked to attend this event please remember that latest registration is 11.40 as first tee is 12.30pm.  We are still working through our list of reserves as the last few ladies cancel their places.

Match 1 – Pennie Lipscomb, handicap 14 (The Warren) v Caroline Fields, handicap 19, (Braintree)  Pennie started well winning the first 3 holes but Caroline then made good use of her shots winning the 4th & halving the 5th and going on to win the 6th & 7th with pars. However after 4 straight pars Pennie was again 3 up & despite brief resistance from her opponent on the 12th went on to win on the 17th 3 & 1.

Match 2 – Amanda Mitchell, handicap 16 (Crondon Park) v Catherine Wilkins, handicap 22 (Stock Brook Manor)  This match was very close with the lead swooping sides repeatedly but Catherine was leading 1up at the turn.
